Web Developer and
General Manager, BookRight 2003—Present
BookRight is an event management web application sold as a
subscription service. I created BookRight with a coworker. In addition to co-creating
the application, I am also in charge of accounting, sales, technical support
and billing.
•
Designed
a user interface that makes BookRight's complex calendaring functionality easy
to use. Technical support for BookRight averages less than 5 minutes per
customer.
•
Researched
and developed an ideal Google AdWords campaign for our budget. It receives the
maximum number of high relevancy clicks for the minimum cost-per-click allowed
by Google.
•
Responsible
for QA on the BookRight web application. To date less than 5 bugs have been discovered
in a live version of BookRight.
• Used Perl and Unix
utilities to create a custom solution for managing sales, technical support and
billing tasks.
• Created BookRight.com
website and authored all website copy.
Website Manager/Purchasing
Manager, Kidrobot 2002—2003
The ecommerce website Kidrobot sells "high fashion
toys." Kidrobot split from Minidisco in 2002 and I was promoted to head of
purchasing. I also continued to manage the Kidrobot website and managed 3 other
employees.
• Negotiated prices and
purchased $5,000 in inventory per week from over 50 different vendors.
• Designed and implemented
a system to manage the process of adding new products to the website. It
increased the effectiveness of delegation, discovered bottlenecks, and made
accurate status reports possible.
• Authored a biweekly HTML
email newsletter with a circulation of over 5,000 readers.
Website Manager,
Kidrobot/Minidisco 2002
Minidisco, the largest online seller of MiniDisc players
and accessories, hired me to help launch their second online store, Kidrobot. I
managed the Kidrobot.com website, added new products and authored most of the
website copy.
•
Managed
the update schedule for the Kidrobot website, including weekly homepage updates
and adding 10 new products per week.
•
Developed
the "voice" of Kidrobot, the consistent tone used in copy throughout
the website.
• Maintained the
kidrobot.com website, keeping it up-to-date, functional and typo-free.
